Meet our Partners: The Women’s Health Information & Support Centre (WHISC)

Each month, we will be bringing you a new partner profile, giving you the opportunity meet our team and find out about their involvement in Directions. Say a big hello to The Women’s Health Information & Support Centre (WHISC)

The Women’s Health Information & Support Centre (WHISC)

Can you tell us about WHISC?

The Women’s Health Information & Support Centre (WHISC) is a charity dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and their families throughout Liverpool and the surrounding areas. Last year we had contact with over 13,500 women and provided over 2,500 ‘Listening Ear’ sessions, a no-appointment-needed service for women in distress.  Established in 1984, our experienced and professional team guarantee a warm and friendly welcome, offering an extensive range of information, support, and guidance services.

Over the years WHISC has seen a huge increase in demand for mental health services including crisis intervention, this can include domestic violence, financial uncertainty, immigration instability and bereavement. In conversation with our service users we remain true to our beginnings as a beneficiary-led organisation.

Why did you become involved in Directions?

We became involved in Directions because we wanted to support our women to regain their confidence and take the lead in their future.

Tell us about the activities you’ll be running with Directions

We will be running a WHISC directions course, including sessions on stress management, presentation skills and benefits with work. This will be a mixture of online and in person sessions along with COVID guidelines.

Do you have any events coming up?

Due to COVID-19 we have had to limit the activities in our centre. We are currently running a telephone listening ear service and a small number of COVID safe classes. If you would like an up to date timetable of our activities please go to www.whisc.org.uk
